Britt Ekland: One of the Most Celebrated Actresses in the United Kingdom



Britt Ekland is a Swedish actress who is a long-time inhabitant of the United Kingdom. She was born on October 6, 1942, in Stockholm, Sweden. Her first exposure to the public was her marriage with comedian-actor Peter Sellers in 1964, followed by her role as a James Bond girl in the film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ in 1974. She has also had an outstanding social life that is followed by the media.

Her career continued in several notable movies, including ‘The Night They Raided Minsky’s’ in 1968, ‘Get Carter’ in 1971, and ‘The Wicker Man’ in 1973. In addition, Ekland was hand-picked by filmmaker Roman Polanski to be in the leading role for his film ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ in 1968. The director believed that she would contrast with the dark undertones of the movie; however, the studio favoured Mia Farrow. She also played biographical characters, including the real-life story of actress Anny Ondra (the wife of boxer Max Schmeling) and the hooker Mariella Novotny. She was also noted to be the first actress to do Pilates, a physical fitness method developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. She came out with a book about beauty and fitness in 1984 and made a fitness video in 1992.

Her latest appearances include the stage show based on the British television series ‘Grumpy Old Women’ entitled ‘Grumpy Old Women Live’ in December 2007 and ‘Cinderella’ performed at the Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre in the winter of 2008. She also appeared in the British daytime television programme ‘Loose Women’ as a guest in January 2008.
