I’m going to try and give you a very objective view of this movie. I mean, it’s a little hard because I really, really, really like Daniel Craig you know!
If ‘Casino Royale’ felt a bit like elementary Bond, Craig and his directors definitely take a giant leap forward with ‘Quantum of Solace’ and test the parameters of the beginnings of the world’s most famous super spy. Not that he didn’t look great the first time around, but Daniel Craig is just getting better and he looks so much more comfortable as 007 this time around.
‘Quantum of Solace’ starts about an hour after ‘Casino Royale’ finishes and it’s a 106 minutes of non-stop action. No, you don’t even get to pause to take a breath. There’s no time wasted at all and by the time the opening credits finish rolling, Bond’s already halfway through a riveting action-packed car chase.
The super spy thrills you and I was immediately sucked into his world. This time around an international organisation made up of super rich and even more corrupt business folk are holding the Bolivian government at ransom while cleverly diverting the country’s most precious and valuable natural resources.
Vesper’s death adds a whole new streak of vengeance to Bond’s passion to kill the bad guys. He doesn’t romanticise the killing, he snaps the vertebrae and you know Bond is back.
It might not be the best, but it’s getting there and hell, this version of Bond is slightly more comfortable in a tux than the ‘Casino Royale’ predecessor. One thing’s for sure, ‘Quantum of Solace’ proves just how right Daniel Craig is for this role – he owns Bond now, in a way not many others have been able to.
