This movie encompasses the tale of two sisters, somewhat wild Maggie and a more straight-laced Rose, who have very little in common besides their size 8-1/2 feet. They are not really close because they have little in common. Maggie is the wild type who likes flamboyant clothes and partying into the night. On the other hand, Rose is the more responsible, studious type who makes very little time for just letting her hair down and having fun. These sisters are worlds apart, but after Maggie discovers a long-lost grandmother, things get interesting. She knows things about the girls’ past that brings them closer together than ever before, and makes their differences seem trifling at best.
Many have classified this film as “chick lit,” but it really doesn’t fit that mould. The movie is filled with humour and it also contains its fair share of heartbreaking scenes. The movie makes us think about our own relationships with our siblings and how close they may have been at one time, but how far apart we have grown over the years.
In Her Shoes is about relationships and how they evolve and grow, and because of that it is a story we can all feel a part of. We can all relate to those carefree years of our youth, when our biggest concern was what to wear on a Saturday night, but we can also relate to the taking on of responsibilities, as we grow older and find ourselves becoming more and more burdened over the years, to the exclusion of all the other things that could have touched our lives.
I enjoyed this film and think it makes great viewing for both men and women.
