Clive Owen

Actor

Born 3rd October 1964 in Coventry, Clive is the fourth of five brothers. His father left when he was just three years old and he was raised by his mother and stepfather. He started out in youth theatre in his home town and eventually attended RADA, graduating in 1987.

After his graduation he joined the Young Vic, appearing in several productions of Shakespeare’s plays. He moved from there to roles in television productions including ‘An Evening with Gary Lineker’ and ‘Return of the Native’. His role in Stephen Poliakoff’s ‘Close My Eyes’ raised eyebrows (Clive played a man in an incestuous relationship with his sister) and television work tailed off for a while, though he continued to work in the theatre.

He has appeared in several hit films including ‘Gosford Park’ and ‘The Bourne Identity’. His took a role in ‘Closer’ in 2004 after appearing in the play in both the West End and on Broadway, though he played a different character in the film and it earned him an Oscar nomination. When the role of James Bond became available again for ‘Casino Royale’ his name was touted as a possibility, and he was apparently cast in the title role of ‘King Arthur’ when the producers believed that he would be the next Bond.

Clive’s wife is the actress Sarah-Jane Fenton and the couple met when they played the leads in a production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The couple married in 1995, have two daughters and live in London and Essex.
