Singer, Actor, Television Presenter
Born in Salisbury, Wiltshire in April 1978, Duncan James is an English, singer, actor, and television presenter. He got his start in show business as a member of the popular UK boy band, Blue.
Growing up in Devon, James was raised mostly by his mother with the help of his grandparents. He was an only child, and his family encouraged his creativity. His grandfather was a music teacher at the Dumpton School, where James also attended. In high school James appeared in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ as Puck and as Dr. Watson in ‘Sherlock Holmes.’
It was in 2000 that Duncan James formed Blue with Antony Costa, Lee Ryan, and Simon Webbe. The band was heavily influenced by R&B and was at the top of the charts until 2004. In fact, Blue became one of the most popular groups throughout Europe, achieving eleven Top 10 singles, three of which went to Number 1. In 2009, Blue announced a new album to be released in the near future.
During Blue’s hiatus, James embarked on a solo career. At first, he topped the charts, but soon there was a loss of interest and he lost his recording contract. Though his solo music career has not burgeoned, he has a strong career elsewhere in show business. One of the most popular television announcers, James has also appeared on ITV1’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ and even made it to the grand final. Additionally, James can be seen on stage.
Raised as a strict Catholic, James made his bisexuality public in 2009. He is not currently in a relationship with anyone, but does have a four-year-old daughter, Tianie-Finne, with his ex-girlfriend, Claire Granger.
