GCSE Information Technology is usually a non-compulsory option, but if you have enjoyed your IT lessons so far then this could be a good choice for you. It is also worth remembering that we are living in a very technological age, where we rely more and more on computers, so having a good working knowledge of them will always be useful no matter what career path you choose to follow.
The course itself is wide and varied, and will change almost yearly as the technology advances so quickly. Currently the course looks at the world of design, where you will get a chance to discover why computer aided design (CAD) has revolutionalised the systems used and allowed the industry to advance in leaps and bounds. You will also look at how computers are used in networks so that massive corporations and organisations can be connected by their technology. Much of this will be practical based, where you will be expected to try and set up small networks. This will also mean you need to learn about IP addresses and their place in the world of IT.
There will be an examination at the end of the two years, testing the knowledge you have acquired. There is also the chance to do a piece of coursework, perhaps to do with creating websites, programming in JavaScript or many other options. If you enjoy computers and like thinking logically then this could be a good GSCE for you.
