GCSE History is a popular choice for those who enjoy looking into the past and understanding more about it. You will get a chance to study many areas of history, from modern history to the history of the social and economic world. It is certainly not limited to just the history of this country, but you will spend time looking at the history in the USA, specifically 1919 to 1941, encompassing things like the roaring twenties and Wall Street in the 30s. You will then look at other countries such as Germany, Vietnam and Russia at times when they were of specific interest, such as during World War 1 and 2. Part of the course also looks at international relations and how these broke down from time to time and caused international conflicts.
Time is spend looking at Northern Ireland as there were numerous issues there involving the IRA, and they are a classic example of in-fighting within one country and the devastating consequences of this. You get a chance to investigate medicine over time, going right back to prehistoric times and looking at how Egypt and Greece dealt with health issues. The course just keeps going and has such a wide and interesting syllabus that it is impossible to list it all, but rest assured you are going to find areas to interest you. There is a final examination which you will need to spend time revising for as this is worth 100% of the mark.
