Key Skills – Application Of Number

Application of number is another of the group of six key skills that the Government feel all young people should have. There are four levels available in the application of number skill, and as with all of the key skills you need to develop a portfolio of work and pass a test.

What you need to be able to do is demonstrate that you have learnt how to interpret information involving numbers, for example in life you are going to come up against various bills or have to buy tickets for travel and understand how each cost relates to the level of service you are buying. You will need to confidently carry out calculations to help you when shopping for example, and you will need to be able to interpret your results and present your findings in such a format that can be easily understood by others.

The world is full of numbers and it will benefit you greatly if you can understand numbers and figures. You will have to pay rent or mortgage fees, pay council tax and deal with arranging a supply of gas, electricity or oil depending on where you live, and having the skills to look at the amount you are being charged, choose the cheapest provider and balance your income against your outgoings is going to be an invaluable skill. So if you find that this is a skill you do not have naturally this could be a good course for you.
