The six key skills are a group of skills that the government believe are vital for all children to do, so that they make progress in school, college and finally at work. For lots of students these are skills that have developed naturally over their time in education, but for others these are a real struggle. So in some cases they are offered by schools as NVQ level qualifications that can be built up to GSCE equivalent levels.
The first of these skills is Communication. As with all of the key skills, the method of study is split into three areas, and you may not need to study all of these depending on your current level of skill, but to pass the skill you need to have developed a portfolio of evidence and take a test. The communication course looks at skills such as writing a good report and making effective presentations as well as pressure groups and ideas on how to write a good essay. It is split into more than one level so you can start where you need.
In getting to grips with all these tasks you will be using communication skills and getting better at them almost without realising it. You will learn to listen when someone else is putting ideas forward, speak when it is your turn to voice an opinion, and your reading and writing skills will be developed when you write up what you have learnt in the form of a report or essay.
