At some stage you are going to want to find a job, whether it is after you have done several more years of education or whether you are thinking about looking for a Saturday job to earn a small amount of money to make your social life easier.
Looking for a job sounds interesting, but how do you actually do it; where do you actually look, There are lots of ways employers find staff, including adverts in the job centre or the local newspapers. Check them out regularly and also have a look at ads in shop windows or simply by word of mouth.
One of the best ways to look for a Saturday type job is to go for a walk in your local town and be brave, pop into shops that you think you could deal with working in, be bright and bubbly and ask politely whether they have any Saturday vacancies. If they don’t, also ask whether you could leave your details in case the situation changes. Employers like to see an element of self-starting and independence, so you may just find yourself in luck and lots of local shops will rely on young people to work on a Saturday.
In most cases you will need to be 16, but paper-rounds and similar jobs may well let you work from 13. The lower age limit used to be 13, but the government changed the rules, which is frustrating if you really want to work.
