Sports and Leisure is one of the newest courses on offer in some schools, and it forms part of the new vocational courses that have been introduced to allow students who find learning in a rigid classroom environment difficult, preferring to learn in a practical way.
If on offer at your school, Sports and Leisure could be an excellent choice for you if you enjoy being active and participating in a range of sports. It’s an excellent basis for anyone hoping to develop a career in leisure management, either by running a leisure centre or by becoming a fitness instructor. There will be a lot of physical activity on the course so you should enjoy being active; this course wouldn’t really suit someone who hates running! You will learn about the physical body structure, how it works and how to take care of it and prevent injury when exercising. You will need to learn how to work with and interact with people, and how to get them motivated.
You will learn about the business side of running a leisure complex, with issues like employee management, property management and care of equipment covered. This will give you a real edge if this is where you’d like to go after school. It will also make it a natural step for you to move to college and enrol on the next level Sports and Leisure course, another bonus. Additionally, the course leads to an industry standard qualification which will hold recognition.
