How to Avoid Losing All of Your Contacts

Psychologists have noted that humans no longer need to store information for later recall in quite the same way we used to. With continual advancements in technology, our ability to re-allocate our memories to storage devices, such as our phone, is ever-increasing. Can’t remember someone’s name? Start typing what you can recall of it into your phone. Need to make a phone call? You can find someone’s phone number in your contacts or online with ease. Forgot the last ingredient for your favourite cookie recipe? Just type the recipe name into a search engine and there it will be.

As much as this ability to save space in our brains for more creative endeavours may be, our reliance on technology to keep track of important information can be a problem for us as well. Take, for instance, the case of dropping your phone in the pool while heading to sunbathe in the summer. If the phone’s hardware is irreparably damaged, will you be able to reach the people you need to? Not everyone can say they can!

If you are reading this before running into such an unfortunate situation, you’re taking the right steps already. Three ways to avoid losing all of your contacts in one foul swoop are:

Back up your phone

You will not be happy if your phone becomes damaged and you didn’t take an hour to back your phone up when you had the chance. Most phones offer cloud storage, so you don’t even have to plug your phone in to ensure your data is safe.

Keep a list on your computer

This might seem tedious, but many apps can synchronize with your phone’s contacts and make it easy to keep a back-up list on your computer for safe keeping.

Write them down

Go old-school and make use of a physical address book to ensure that no technological issues will be in the way of you and those you need to keep in touch with.
