Volpino Italiano – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

As the name might suggest, the Volpino Italiano is an Italian dog breed. It also goes by the names Cane de Quirinale, Italian Spitz and Florentine Spitz. The Volpino Italiano has been around for hundreds of years. While most dogs were beloved by regular society, the Volpino Italiano was most loved by royalty. They were especially beloved by female royals because of their fluffy coat and their positive temperament. While a beautiful dog, they were often used as working dogs. Particularly, they made a good guard dog. They are very protective of not only their home, but the people living there as well. They will guard their home and their owners, barking to alert their owners in the case of an intruder. For a long time, the Volpino Italiano wasn’t accepted as its own breed as it has a very close physical resemblance to the Pomeranian and the American Eskimo Dog. Luckily, they gained their own breed recognition from the United Kennel Club in 2006. They also have breed standards in the Italian National Kennel Club and the FCI.

Volpino Italiano dogs are relatively small. They have an average height of between 22 and 31 centimetres. They also have an average weight of between 4 and 5.5 kilograms. Female Volpino Italiano dogs tend to be a little bit smaller than males in both height and weight. Their long, fluffy and soft coat can be white, black, red, fawn, honey or champagne coloured. They have tall ears that are erect and come to points.
