Braque duPuy – Dog Breed Information and Pictures



The Braque duPuy is a hunting dog that is believed to have originated in Poitou, France. The duPuy is considered the tallest of the Braque breeds. It is an old breed of substance with a highly energetic and brave nature. In the 1800’s this breed was made by crossing the Braques with the greyhounds.

The body has a unique profile. The form is muscular yet lean. The Braque duPuy’s physique is tone with an elegant form. It is a medium to large sized which can weight from 45 to 65 lbs (20 to 30 kg). The breed is known for its speed and agility. This was especially important to hunters of all game and terrains. They are friendly to humans and efficient in all of their duties.

The coat is short in length and lays flat against the body. You can see the shapes of the muscles under the hair. The colours of the Braque duPuy are white with brown or orange coloured spots. The tail is white and long. It is slim and is carried downward with a slight curve. This was the original look of the dog.

This breed has since died off and is no longer living in its original state in the modern world. It has been bred with other canines but this particular canine is very rare, some would say extinct. This breed was considered very loyal and active. They were always ready to hunt and go on adventure with their owners. The Braque duPuy needed activity and daily exercise to live healthy.
