The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a dog originating in Wales. It is also called the Welshie for short. In the past, it was known as both the Welsh Spaniel and the Welsh Cocker, although these names fell out of favour for the Welsh Springer Spaniel in the early twentieth century. The Welsh Springer Spaniel was sent to America in the late nineteenth century and has since become very popular there. It even became recognized in 1906 by the American Kennel Club.
Welsh Springer Spaniels are very friendly dogs. They are affectionate to their family and will even meet strangers, although they might be a bit reserved at first. They are good with children and other pets. Because of this, they make a great pet for the family. Some people call them ‘velcro dogs’ because they want to spend all of their time with their owners, and tend to become depressed when left alone for extended periods of time. Since they need a lot of exercise and activity, it is a bad idea to keep Welsh Springer Spaniels indoors for long periods of time. They need daily exercise or they could have a change in their temperament or their health.
The Welsh Springer Spaniel has long, floppy ears indicative of a spaniel type dog. It also has a long tail that flips up at the end. The Welsh Springer Spaniel has a medium length, soft coat. They have a coat colour of white and some shade of red.
