It is commonly called a number of various names including Cimarron Creole, Cimarron Dog, Uruguayan Gaucho Dog, Perro Cimarron and many other variations of the aforementioned terms. The Cimarron Uruguayo came from European canines.
They were feral dogs that multiplied in number over many years. Unfortunately, because they were wild, they hunted livestock for food and would attack humans that wandered into their territory or tried to stop them from killing their livestock. This viciousness led to the dogs being hunted and killed for safety reasons. However, some of the Cimarron Uruguayos were caught and tamed as efficient guard dogs.
The Cimarron Uruguayo is a large dog. This makes it an intimidating canine. Their inherent skills of protecting, and even their aggressive nature, have added to the need for this dog and the desire to keep them as loyal and brave companions. This is a very courageous breed.
It is important for this dog to be socialized for the sake of other animals and dogs that might be added to this dog’s family. The same can be said about the safety factor for children. Only with socialization and training can this bread be kept as a pet. They thrive when used for hunting or guarding. This allows them to feel like they are a contributing member of the family.
