The Chilean Fox Terrier originated in Chile as the name indicates. This breed is also known as the Chilean Rat Terrier or Ratonero.
The Chilean Fox Terrier has strong hunting instincts and loves to feel as though it always has a task to do. Allowing this dog to work for its owners gives the dog a sense of pride and fulfilment. It does not have to work though and can be a good companion. The personality of the Chilean Fox Terrier is fun and exciting. They love to interact with their human companion and they are friendly enough to get along with children.
It is important to note that this breed is very hyperactive and needs activity daily. It is important that this breed is walked on a daily basis to satisfy a dogs need to walk and explore. If they do not have space to run and play or hunt they can build up that energy and the results can be undesirable (chewing, barking, soiling in the house). They should have a daily exercise regiment if they will not be hunting dogs.
The Chilean Fox Terrier has a distinctive appearance that sets it aside from all of the other rat terrier types. The fur coat is short hair, and is typically all white except for patterning in shades of black and tan. There is a grey undercoat and this might allow for some darker areas on the white body to show up. The ears are high on the dog’s head and the tips are folded forward.
