The Alpine Dachsbracke is a small Austrian breed of scent hound. This particular scent hound was originally bred to detect and locate wounded animals such as deer and other game for hunters. The reason is that this specific hound has the ability to find the scent long after it has “gone cold”.
The cause of this small breed to look like the dachshund is due the fact that they were bred with them to reduce the size of the Alpine Dachsbracke. The dachshund was once a German favourite and it was attractive to take the large Alpine Dachsbracke and breed them together with the small bodied dogs. So, as a result, the legs might be a little longer and some of the features might not be an exact duplicate of the dachshund but the resemblance is a distinguishing factor.
The coat of the Alpine Dachsbracke is thick and short. Most of the body is smooth to the touch with the exception of the neck and the tail. The most common colours of this breed are black, tan, brown and red. Of course these colours are in combinations with each other.
The personality traits of the Alpine Dachsbracke are: friendly, intelligent, fearless, athletic, and always ready for a hunt. Although this breed is generally kept by hunters for tracking work the Alpine Dachsbracke also make great pets. They play well with children and other pets and do not usually display aggressive behaviours.
