The Australian Terrier breed is a small type of terrier. The ancestors of the Australian Terrier came from Great Britain. This particular dog originated in Australia by cross breeding others of this class.
The Australian Terrier has a small body and very short legs. They usually weigh under 15 pounds and stand at around ten inches tall. The coat on this breed is shaggy. They have what is referred to as a double coat. Usually owners do not trim it and let it remain in its natural state. The colours generally keep to blue, red and tan. This includes solids and combination colours. Solid colours may have a slightly lighter shade in certain areas of the dog.
The attitude of the Australian Terrier can be a little bossy. It is a good idea to train them or maybe utilize obedience schools or sessions. This can also help them not be aggressive with other dogs or with people. This is not much of a down side considering that this breed is highly trainable and has a head for understanding rather quickly what is required of them.
Australian Terriers typically do well in single pet households or at least homes with only one dog. They seem to have more of a problem with canines of the same gender and may fight them for superiority. Other than the occasional conflicts with animals in the home, this canine shows a lot of love and desires a strong companionship with their human owners.
