The Pachon Navarro is a pointing dog breed that originates in Spain. It is usually most often used in hunting, especially earlier on in the dog breed’s history. Since it has a much better sense of smell than a lot of other breeds of dog, the Pachon Navarro has superior hunting ability. When taken on a hunt, the dog will smell the prey and once it does, the Pachon Navarro will then point its head toward the origin of the smell, keeping its body stiff with head and tail pointing in opposite directions. By this action, the hunter will know where to go to in order to retrieve his prey. The Pachon Navarro because of this became a very successful hunting dog.
After the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s, the Pachon Navarro dog breed almost became extinct. Since many breeders wanted to save the breed, they looked around for any available dogs and began carefully breeding them once again. This helped re-establish the breed and would keep it from extinction. Now, they are alive and well in Spain and surrounding European countries.
The Pachon Navarro typically has a liver and white coat where the head is a solid shade of liver. Some dogs of this breed may also have an orange and white coat, although this is less common. They are relatively large with an average weight of 27 to 33 kilograms. Pachon Navarro dogs also have a height of between 48 to 57 centimetres on average.
