Thai Ridgeback – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Thai Ridgeback is referred to as the Mah Thai Lang Ahn in its country of origin, Thailand. This is an ancient breed. It is very hard to figure out its true ancestry other than the fact that it started in Thailand. According to rock paintings found recently, the Thai Ridgeback is thought to have been around since at least 2,000 years ago. They could very easily be much older than that, though. While it can’t be proven, some people believe that the Thai Ridgeback is descended from the ancient and now extinct Funan Ridgeback Dog.

The Thai Ridgeback is named as such because of the fur on its back. This is one of only three breeds to have a strip of hair on their back that grows in the opposite direction as the rest of the fur on their body. This is an obvious stripe made to stand out even more based on the very short coat of the Thai Ridgeback. In most situations, the stripe looks darker than the rest of the body, depending on which direction the dog is viewed from. The coat of the Thai Ridgeback can be varying shades of either black or red. While Thai Ridgebacks can have white fur, this is very rare.
