White Shepherd Dog – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

While the White Shepherd Dog descends from the German Shepherd Dog of Germany, this dog was actually first bred in the United States. White coated German Shepherd Dogs were bred exclusively in order to create this breed. This first occurred in the late 1800s and continued into the 1900s. Although they started in the US and that is their country of origin, they have become very popular in other parts of the world. For instance, they are beloved in Japan and have even been used in video games, movies and television shows. Most kennel clubs don’t recognize the White Shepherd Dog as a separate breed. The United Kennel Club of the United States seemed to be the only one that has truly accepted the White Shepherd Dog.

White Shepherd Dogs are very confident. They stand tall and act fearless, though they aren’t usually aggressive or hostile. They make good guard and herding dogs, although they can also act as a guard dog as well because of their attentiveness and willingness to please. They make a good family pet because they are loyal and protective of their family. They are happy to spend time with them and love to play fetch.

As the name would suggest, the White Shepherd Dog is completely white. Their coat length varies between medium and long, and the fur stands out straight from the body. The ears are wide at the base and stand erect at a point at the top of the head.
