Beauceron – Dog Breed Information and Pictures



The Beauceron is a dog breed that originated in France. This herding dog has many names, including Berger de Beauce, the French Shorthaired Shepherd, and Bas Rouge. This specific breed was responsible for creating the Doberman Pinscher.

Beaucerons are very resourceful and adaptable to their surroundings and duties. Not only do they have a long history of herding sheep, but they are also known for protecting livestock from fierce predators, such as wolves. They are used as rescue dogs, transport canines, and the detection of explosives.

The powerful build of the Beauceron provides them with the strength and ability to overcome. They are not a heavy dog; in fact, they are toned and have an athletic style to their structure. Because of their stature, they are known to have a confident demeanour and are never shy or withdrawn.

The Beauceron have a double coat. The outer coat is dense and coarse with the under coat being fine. Typically, the colours are black and tan or harlequin. The under coat is a mouse grey shade that can not be seen through the top coat.

The personality of the Beauceron has a number of desirable traits. They are quite calm and relaxed around their family but are known for being highly protective of children. They are naturally fearless and are intelligent, giving them the ability to learn tasks that are asked of them with little to no formal training. Although they are a wonderful outside working dog, they can also be happy as a house dog.
