The Cao Fila de Sao Miguel is a molosser type of dog breed that originated from the Sao Miguel Island located in Portugal. They are working canines that generally have duties that involve moving cattle. Other common names are Azores Cow Dog, Saint Miguel Cattle Dog and other such variations of this type of label.
Although the Cao Fila de Sao Miguel is a large-size dog, they are not so large that they seem awkward. They are well-constructed and balanced. This breed has long legs, a deep chest, and a broad head. The muscular body shows that they are a hard-working dog that is capable of helping any rancher.
The fur coat of the Cao Fila de Sao Miguel is made of coarse, harsh hairs that are smooth. The coat on this particular breed is generally brindle in colour. The shades of the brindle can be variations of brown, fawn, grey and black.
With the Cao Fila de Sao Miguel, it is important to realise that they are not meant to be pets. This is one working breed that needs to have tasks and it needs to work with livestock. They are very aggressive and excel in helping to control feral cattle. The Cao Fila de Sao Miguel can be quite dangerous around unfamiliar children and in questionable circumstances. If they are to be a companion or yard dog, then they need to be trained from a puppy as well as be socialised.
