The Norwegian Buhund goes by many names. For instance, they are also known as the Norwegian Sheepdog and the Norsk Buhund. Although it can be hard to track the lineage of a dog breed, most breeders believe that the Norwegian Buhund is a descendant of the Jämthund and the Icelandic Sheepdog.
This dog breed is often referred to as a sheepdog because of its physical traits. They are agile and have a lot of stamina. They are good at keeping animals, such as sheep, in line and where they are supposed to be. They are very alert and will react at the smallest noise or movement, as opposed to lazier dog breeds.
Besides being a good working dog, the Norwegian Buhund is also good as a companion. They are very friendly and sweet, as well as loyal to their owner. Because of this, they make a great addition to families with small children. Norwegian Buhunds like to exercise with their owner. If you go jogging, you can take your dog with you to run beside you along the way. They won’t stray from your side because of their natural herding instincts as a sheepdog.
Norwegian Buhunds are relatively small dogs. Female varieties are smaller and more feminine than the males. Their height ranges from 43 to 46 centimetres while their weight stays between 14 and 18 kilograms. Their coat can range from all black to all white/wheaten in colour. The wheaten aspect of a Norwegian Buhund ranges from white to a dark, rusty red.
