Spring is the time that nature renews itself. Everything is fresh and new, so it’s no surprise that many couples also choose this time of year to start their new life together. Because there is so much in bloom, there are dozens of seasonal choices for your wedding flowers. Choosing flowers in season is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also much more affordable.
Almost everyone has walked by a lilac bush in the spring and been completely engulfed in the fragrant beauty. Lilacs are not only lovely and fragrant but also grow easily in almost every area, making them a budget friendly choice. Be sure to cut them immediately before they are needed, however, as they can wilt quickly. Besides the more common shades of violet, lilacs are also grown in white and various shades of pink. The delicate Lily of the Valley is often used in bridal arrangements as well. It is available in white and pink, but is a short lived bloom. It is only fresh for a few weeks each April.
Some other spring choices include tulips, hyacinth, irises, bluebells and even the graceful and virginal snowflake flowers. Tulips can be used to create a sophisticated backdrop for your wedding and come in a rainbow of colours. For an extremely hardy bouquet or centrepiece, you may want to consider incorporating irises into the arrangement. Unlike some other spring blossoms, irises stay fresh and crisp looking for much longer than other choices. They can be cut well ahead and maintain a lovely appearance.
Of course, you don’t have to choose flowers that are in season at the time of your wedding. However, it is a wonderful way to celebrate your event. When you are married in spring, it brings a sense of freshness to your big day that will make the whole room sparkle.
