Overview of Addiction

Addiction is a stage where one does not have the control over what he or she is doing, using o taking something. This is a stage which may even prove to be harmful.

The are two types of addictions that are very commonly seen. They are

Alcohol addiction
And
Drug addiction.

But the possibility of becoming addicted to anything, right form chocolate to gambling is there in everyone. Once addicted to something, one will not be able to control its non-usage and one will be completely dependent on the thing for leading his or her normal course of life.

There are people who use these addicted substances regularly without having any problems. But there are some people who have a tendency to experience some severe physical and psychological those are very damaging. This causes them to turn these habits into an addiction. If a person is unable in controlling the usage of the substance it will also result in a very strained relationship with other people. This can result in problems at home, school or work.

No studies have revealed the actual cause for any of the addictions. If a person is addicted to substances like nicotine, drugs or alcohol it will change the way he or she feels both physically and mentally, which is enjoyed by some people. This gives rise to a felling with a strong desire for the repetition of the same. Some to the activities like gambling which can result in a “high” if won will definitely be followed by the desire for the repetition of the success. Slowly and eventually, this becomes a habit, without which the person feels he cannot lead a normal life.

The addiction of a person to a substance implies that he or she is dependent on that particular substance to a certain degree. Withdrawal of the substance or not using the substance leads to a very less pleasant situation than using the substance. As the usage of the substance increases, the tolerance level of the body becomes also increases to such a situation that one may have to use the substance more frequently and in larger amounts to fell the same effect.

Children growing up in homes where the abuse and addictions to drugs and alcohol is present, have higher chances of developing addictions in adulthood. The other triggers which pave the way for addictions include lack of education, and unemployment as well as poverty which is due to the emotional as well as the professional stress they develop. Addictions are just a way of forgetting the difficulties as well as dealing with them for a short period of time.

Many organisations are present which give help, advice, support and treatment for addictions. Treatment in addiction centres are given by different people including specialist nurses, counsellors and psychiatrists. There are a large number of websites which help to give advice on de-addictions. Local groups may also be present in various countries that help those with addictions to recover.
