You may have noticed when you were considering which university to go to that the two top ranked institutions in the UK are Cambridge University and Oxford University.
The two have consistently been ranked the top universities in the UK for some time due to their quality of course delivery, graduate employability and overall student satisfaction.
Make no mistake, entry to the institutions is no easy feat. These days even if you have 3 AAA A-Levels you are not guaranteed a place. Competition for places on courses are fierce, and you will need to show them that you have what it takes to study at one of the world’s most famous universities. Consistently performing well in exams all through your education will help, as well as showing that you are focused and dedicated to your chosen area of study.
Early preparation is the key to success. There are various study centres that offer training on the entrance exams and demanding interviews that potential students must undertake. But be careful; make sure that you are being offered the relevant tuition, and they are not just looking to make some money out of you.
In recent times the universities have been under pressure to admit more students from lower-income families. This is gradually becoming more apparent. However, you will still need to show that you have the academic qualities to succeed.
Remember that you are not allowed to apply to both Oxford and Cambridge University, you must choose only one. However, different rules apply at postgraduate level.
