Designing home aquariums involve more personal taste and style than many people may think. Whether it is just recreating a natural habitat for the fish or adding a trendy moving sculpture to the room, aquarium decorations can be used. Aquarium decorations can either be realistic or fake.
Realistic aquarium decorations consist of live plants or brownish and green silk plastic plants, rocks and natural driftwood. Realistic fish tank substrate can be a natural coloured sand or gravel. The good thing in using realistic aquarium decorations is having a real ecosystem in one’s home. Using natural materials (like rocks and plants) can provide the fish places to look for shelter. If there are live bearing fish in the aquarium, plants can provide the babies a place for hiding until they are big enough to face the community. Natural aquarium decorations also imitate the natural habitats of the fish, giving fish solace.
Fake style aquarium decorations include, unnaturally coloured plastic plants, neon gravel or acrylic gemstone for substrate, and pre-made statues for decorations. The statues may be mermaids, castles, ancient ruins, huge clamshells and deep-sea divers. The good thing in using fake aquarium decorations (like turquoise plastic plants, mermaid figurines and coral castles) is that they offer a place for the fish to hide against their more hostile tank mates. Another good thing is that the person decorating the tank can tailor the aquarium to his precise room décor and tastes. If the room is blue, blue aquarium decorations can be included. If he likes white and black, then he can find things in such colours.
