Many years ago fish were bred in pools and ponds as food. Later, fish served as an alternative to meat in medieval Europe. The ancient Sumerians kept coloured fish as pets. Keeping fish has come a long way since it was first practised. Keeping fish is a hobby that enables you to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. Many people keep fish at home in fish tanks called aquariums. However, it is not as simple as it sounds, as there are many things needed for it to be successful. Among these things are the various important aquarium accessories and other equipment. An aquarium heater is just one such device.
An aquarium heater is a device that you must have in an aquarium. This is because such a device keeps the temperature of the water in the aquarium suitable for the fish and other organisms living there. The heater normally keeps the temperature within 22 degrees to 30 degrees Celsius. There are various types of aquarium heaters, which include the under gravel heaters and the glass immersion heaters.
Through the under gravel process, the aquarium can be heated with the use of a flexible cable buried beneath the aquarium substrate (material used beneath the tank). This kind of heater is usually used in aquariums that are heavily planted.
Another type of heater is the glass immersion heater, which consists of a glass tube that contains a heating element usually in the form of electricity. To be efficient, a glass immersion heater also contains sand and a thermostat. The operation of this type of heater is often indicated by a tiny light. This kind of aquarium heater is usually submersible.
