Askal – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

An Askal dog is widely known as a mongrel. They are native to and originated in the Philippines. They are primarily called Askal, or mongrel, because they are typically stray dogs. Askals are of mixed breed. Usually, in the Philippines, people do not take kindly to Askals. They are seen as a lesser quality of dog. Purebreds are used as companions and watchdogs while the Askal is normally disregarded.

Due to the fact that Askals are made up of various bloodlines and breeds, their physical characteristics can vary greatly. Some will have short hair and others will have longer hair, and they can come in a varied array of sizes and structures and colours as well.

However, Askals are generally gentle canines and can be very loyal if they are shown affection. They desire companionship, as is the case with any dog. They can also be easily trained. In some cases they have been utilized as bomb sniffing dogs, and this working capacity is growing for the Askal type of canine.

Askals are resilient because of their history of being a street animal. This is a good thing when it comes to being a strong protector or watchdog as they are ferocious enough to stand their ground yet compassionate and loving enough to value friendship. They can be easily trained and work well with humans in a broad range of duties. The Askal has a deep desire to please people and will work hard to forge a bond with their owners.
