The Australian Bulldog started out being called the Aussie Bulldog. Obviously, this breed originated in Australia. The reason behind breeding this specific dog was due to the fact that most bulldogs have genetic health problems. While carefully selecting bulldogs to breed, the Australian Bulldog was created to break free from the common health complaints and create a stronger, healthier breed.
The Australian Bulldog is a medium sized dog. The structure is thick and strong. The coat of this breed is generally short and smooth to the touch. The colours of the fur can include: brindle, fawn, red or white. The tails are can be crank or screw; both have been known to be present in this breed.
The Australian Bulldog is not a working dog. They are usually not used for show either. This breed enjoys a calm lifestyle and is happiest with limited activity. The energy level is relatively low in comparison to other breeds. Some would say it is a lazy canine so it would be perfect for an owner that enjoys relaxing with their pet instead of running it around or taking it on lengthy excursions on a daily basis.
The personality traits of the Australian Bulldog are much desired by people looking for a loyal companion. They are calm and docile in nature, very friendly, and do not display an aggressive tendency unless provoked. They are not well suited to being a guard dog or yard dog; instead they are better suited for an indoor life.
