Batard – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Batard is a French name for a mixed breed dog. The dog can be of any breed at all or even a number of mixed breeds. The English translation is Bastard. The term is very broad and can encompass a wide variety of dog types.

This being said, the dog has no real set description or standard size. They can not match the typical purebred look across any criteria that can be used to describe a breed. Often, Batards can resemble any dog type, but their specific features will likely be randomly passed down from the parents and grandparents.

It is difficult to say what sort of skills they may or may not possess regardless of the type of dog they resemble. Purebreds are designed to take certain traits in order to keep the main essential skills in the bloodline from generation to generation. So, it stands to reason that the Batard might not have any specific traits or features that are blended in the Batard dog breed.

The personality traits reported with a Batard type of dog are often positive. They are affectionate to those that are friendly. However, they can be quite aggressive if provoked in certain situations. If the Batard is raised from a puppy, they can be just as sweet and loving as any other dog. However, if the dog has been wild and never really domesticated, then care should be taken when introducing them to children and other household pets to ensure the dog will respond in a positive manner.
