The Berger Picard is a breed that originated in France. The name is for a specific region called Picardie located in the northeast part of France. This dog breed is most likely related to the Briard and the Beauceron. The Berger Picard is a rare canine.
This medium-size dog has a well-muscled body. The ears are naturally set high and are erect. The dog’s form is longer than its height, and it has a unique fur coat. By the coat, one can usually tell this breed from the others. The shaggy, outer fur is rough and harsh. It usually hangs at about two to two and half inches in length all over the body with the exception of the face. The undercoat has a soft and dense texture.
This smart, energetic breed does have a tendency to display a stubborn streak, but they more than make up for this quirky behaviour with their loyal, loving, affectionate and alert nature. They can be a calm and relaxed canine, but they are highly protective of their families and other pets that are part of those families.
The Berger Picard is one breed that requires and desires a lot of human companionship. They need to be needed and have to be noticed. They enjoy the company of people and animals. Some training early on might be required to make sure that they understand the importance of obedience. This breed can easily pick up on the duties for which they are needed and will act accordingly. They excel at all tasks for which they are used.
