This is a film that the whole family can enjoy watching together. Devoid of any violent scenes and brash language, it’s also the kind of film you can feel comfortable allowing the children to enjoy on their own. It’s heart-warming, funny and well-presented. In typical Disney fashion, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is a hilarious adventure film with a fun twist. It’s the story of a pampered Beverly Hills pooch, Chloe, who is used to wearing diamond-studded collars and cute knitted booties on her paws. She goes with her doting owner on a vacation to Mexico, where she is dog-napped.
The plot thickens as Chloe meets a whole cast of unlikely characters, from Papi, a lovelorn soul who is instantly drawn to Chloe and heads South of the Border to rescue her from her fate, to Delgado, a German Sheppard who decides that it is now his job to act as Chloe’s protector.
The interactions between the canine characters are excellent and the challenges they face as this film progresses are filled with a sense of realism, while not becoming too serious as to frighten the littlest of viewers.
Adults and children alike will enjoy this film. It is well-done with the usual level of Disney quality, and the vocals provided by the actors are entertaining, yet lend a certain sense of realism to the film. The computer effects too are state of the art, and also lend to the credibility of the film, which contains just the right mixture of silliness and heart-warming comedic moments to make this a film that everyone will enjoy and talk about for days to come.
