The Bijon originated in Spain but was then taken to France. The French name for this dog breed is Bichon Frise and it is commonly known as such. This is a small breed and is quite popular as household pets.
It is a medium boned, sturdy dog. It can easily be identified by its coat. This pure white dog has dense and curly fur. When the fur is brushed, it has the appearance of a large powder puff or cotton ball. The plumed tail is carried over the back. Even the walk is distinct with this breed. They jaunt and strut with their head held high. They are proud and sassy at the same time.
This breed is naturally happy. They delight in bringing joy to humans. The Bijon is very sensitive, affectionate, and requires a lot of love. Everything about this dog is gentle, and it requires the same back from people.
The Bijon is often placed on a no shedding list, but do not misunderstand this classification. This only means that the dog does not go through heavy cycles of shedding. They do lose hair but gradually, which means there will not be much hair shed at one time and it can be somewhat unnoticeable.
There is a word of caution with the Bijon. They do have health problems and this should be considered before committing to the dog. They require full-time care and can be a wonderful companion but, as they age, they are at risk for many medical conditions.
