The Billy breed originated in France. A number of various hound breeds were combined to create the Billy. All of the hounds that were used are now extinct. The Billy was bred to be a fine, high-quality hunter. The skills have not diminished through time; in fact, they have gotten better and they are still an excellent hunting breed. The game that these dogs hunt usually consists of deer and wild boar. This canine is extremely fast.
The physical characteristics are unique to this breed. This means, of course, that one can easily identify it. The body is lean and slender; the muscles are apparent and toned. This sleek form displays a dog that is ready for adventure. Its nose is pointed, the head is held high, and the general physique is always poised and ready for a run.
The coat is short and harsh haired; it is so short that it adds to the detailed form of the Billy breed. The colour of this dog is pure white or off-white. Of course, other shades of white have been known but are not generally used in show dogs.
The Billy can sometimes be aggressive toward other dogs. This is a hard issue to understand because they often hunt in packs. The socialization should happen at a young age to ensure compatibility between the dogs that would be hunting together. The typical temperament is a courageous, adventurous canine that needs to hunt and have a task to do to be happy.
