No matter what kind of pet bird you bring home, they are a huge responsibility. They need proper diet, grooming, equipment and vet care. This all translates into a lot of money. Birds also are very much like children in that they are messy, loud and mischievous. Knowing all of that, why would anyone voluntarily choose to share their home with a pet bird,
Admiration of Birds
Many people admire birds for their cheekiness, their character and their incredible beauty. One of the world’s oldest sports is falconry, which is still practiced today. A long time ago, falcons and hawks were trained to hunt very much like dogs. They could help you get your dinner.
Now, many people keep birds because they enjoy watching them and like their company. Some people think that keeping a pet bird has taught them how to be a better person.
Rescue
But there is a growing group of people with pet birds who did not opt to get the bird. It was either abandoned or left them by a friend, relative or neighbor. Perhaps the original owner fell on hard times or died and so somehow other people wound up inheriting the pet birds.
People in this group love all animals and know that all pets deserve to live in a loving home with good care. They keep the abandoned creature as an act of service both to the bird and to the larger community, but also enjoy the bird’s antics.
