The Braque du Bourbonnais originated in the province of Bourbonnais, France. This breed is a gundog that is commonly referred to as a Bourbonnais Pointing Dog, French Pointer, or French Pointing Dog. They are an intelligent hunter that can hunt almost any game making it a very versatile hunting companion. The Braque breed can easily work on any terrain and adapt to its surroundings and tasks.
The body is considered square. The chest is long and wide, the physique is strong and toned and the powerful muscles are defined. Females tend to be more elegant and the males are more stocky and muscular. The fur coats are short, dense and somewhat fine in texture except for the back. The back tends to be a little coarser. The colour of the coat is white but there should be ticking or patches of brown or fawn.
The Braque du Bourbonnais points in a classical pose. The hunting capabilities and instincts really take over with this dog. This adventurous canine is very active and energetic. They are generally fast and can change their direction rapidly, which is a positive attribute for avid hunters.
Their temperament is calm yet happy. This breed is very loyal and desires to please its owner and have that human bond. They need interaction and exercise daily in order to be healthy and happy. Usually this breed does not require a lot of training or special socializing because it gets along well with people of all ages.
