The general appearance of the Briard is a rugged dog that is of medium size. They are fast and agile; their bodies are powerful and solid. Their swift moves and the ability to change direction at top speed without difficulty make them an excellent worker. Their strong build allows them to fight-off fierce predators, such as wolves, to keep their flock safe.
The colours of their harsh and rugged coat are commonly solid. The Briard can come in many colours but never white. Generally, they are shades of black, tawny and grey. Combinations of two shades of a like colour are also normal.
This is a very brave and loyal breed. They are protective and territorial. The Briard loves its family, as such, it will fight to the death to protect them from harm. They are affectionate and gentle with people of all ages.
