Castell Coch

Location: Tongwynlais, Mid Glamorgan

Castell Coch is a 20th century folly built on the foundations of a much older castle, a mile north of Cardiff. This venue is a wonderfully romantic sight as it rises out of the woods on Caerphilly Mountain, with its fluted towers it is more reminiscent of a fairytale building from Germany. The location provides a wonderful backdrop for your wedding photographs and from its elevated position you have extensive views of the surrounding countryside.

The castle is licensed to stage wedding and civil ceremonies unfortunately it is only available for small gatherings and can only hold the wedding service itself; due to its size the reception would need to be elsewhere. However with its lavishly decorated Victorian interior and drawbridge gatehouse set in a sea of green, it is a most evocative location to get married in.

Wedding ceremonies take place in the intimate surroundings of the vaulted drawing room of Castell Coch. This is a richly decorated room covered in frescoes of Aesops fables on its walls. It can comfortably hold thirty people.

Within five minutes’ drive there are two large hotels in which you could hold your reception and accommodate your guests. Alternatively you are only ten minutes drive from the centre of Cardiff with its excellent facilities, entertainment and accommodation.

Castell Coch is situated at the Coryton roundabout on junction 24 of the M4 and A470 roads in the village of Tongwynlais. There is a local railway station nearby at Taff’s Well and the Cardiff Wales International Airport is only half an hour away.
