The Chien Francais Tricolore means the French Trri-Coloured Hound. As this name implies, this hound breed originated in France. The type of dog is a scenthound that is primarily used in hunting. The hunting takes place in packs. The Chien Francais Tricolore is happiest in a pack but the owner will always have control. Several breeds will designate a dog to be the superior leader and they will direct. However, this is not the case for this particular type of dog. They always take direction from their human leader.
The tri-coloured patterning is what sets this dog apart from the other French scenthounds. The colours are generally shades of black and tan. Some colouring resembles that of a wolf. The patterns can vary, but the colours stay within the shades of the aforementioned spectrum.
This canine needs a lot of exercise and is a working dog. They do not make good house pets of a single dog home nor do they make a good couch potato. The Chien Francais Tricolore can suffer from separation anxiety if they are taken from their pack. They are very sensitive where their relationships are concerned.
The loyalty of the Chien Francais Tricolore is evident by the way it works hard for affection and approval. They need that bond between them and their human. This is also a gentle breed that can be around children. However, it is important to note that they are a little bouncy and do not realise their own strength when playing. For this reason, a certain amount of caution should be taken.
