Children at your Wedding Reception Part One

Having children at your wedding reception can be a logistical nightmare: thoughts of salmon canapés and dainty sandwiches being thrown around the room and red grape juice spilled across pristine white tablecloths or even worse, wedding gowns!

It doesn’t have to be this way. Here are a few simple tips to keep the darling angels content during their dining experience.

Seat children at their own separate, decorated table which is close to their parents. This way parents are nearby yet still able to enjoy their meal in the company of adults.

Child friendly food is a must. Ask your caterer to provide meals and snacks that are suitable and appetising for your young guests. Bowls of carrot sticks, strawberries and crisps with some watered-down juice and perhaps some fizzy drink so that the children can ‘toast’ along with the adults. Attempt to keep the sugar to a minimum so that there is not a sudden burst of uncontrollable energy and emotions from little people caught up in the excitement of the day.

Try to provide food that children will be able to handle themselves. Children are easily impressed by such party foods as sausage rolls, mini sausages, vegetables cut into varying shapes, tasty morsels of cooked meat, crackers and some cheeses. Desserts need not be a fancy affair either: some delicious fruits served with ice cream and sprinkles on top, or perhaps an assortment of tasty biscuits. Children enjoy independence and parents will also thank you for not needing to cut up their child’s meal for them.
