Chirk Castle

Chirk, Flintshire

Built by King Edward I, Chirk Castle, in Flintshire, is the last of his ring of castles to still be inhabited. For over 700 years it has seen many festivals, celebrations and the occasional wedding. Perched high on a hill overlooking the Ceiriog Valley, this is the perfect place for a special wedding.

The castle has its very own little chapel; a 15th century building set in five-acres of wooded parkland, which can be used for wedding ceremonies. Another popular choice is the thatched, “Hawk House”, a building that, as its name implies, was originally used to keep birds of prey, but which is now tastefully decorated and has gorgeous views across the surrounding countryside. This is the ideal location to have your memorable day’s photographs taken amidst the splendour of the exquisitely landscaped gardens.

For the wedding reception, the Tudor Great Hall provides that true medieval atmosphere and can comfortably accommodate up to 80 guests. However, due to the historic nature of the building, dancing and discos are not permitted.

Although remotely located, there are a number of hotels and guesthouses in the vicinity, with Chirk, Llangollen and Ruabon all being within easy reach of Chirk Castle.

The castle is half a mile outside the village of Chirk, approximately one mile off the A5, halfway between Oswestry and Wrexham. Should you wish to travel by train, the station at Chirk is about two miles from the castle.
