Common Problems of Working Mothers: Stress and Sex Life

A working mother is a woman who is a mother, and at the same time works outside the house to earn additional income. With the world’s economic crisis, relying solely on the salary of a father can no longer support everyday living. Many mothers nowadays are pushed to work and help their husbands in order to sustain the household expenses.

Two common problems for working mothers are stress and their sex lives. Several research centres conducted studies on working women and their sex lives with their partners. Through oral and written interviews, it was discovered that the major complaint of wives was the lack of a sexual relationship and intimacy. Most of these mothers were too stressed or fatigued to desire having sex with their husbands. They were preoccupied in dividing their time between their outside work and household works to the extent that they didn’t have time for sex. Also, some working wives resented their partners for not doing their part of the house keeping and with other family duties. This irritation poured into the sleeping room.

Working mothers are also more susceptible to stress-related sicknesses than are mothers who stay at home. Their stress can be associated with social controversy regarding changing family structures and sex roles. Some other reasons why they are stressed is that many of them feel guilty with their choice to keep working rather than to spend time with their children.
