If you have decided to begin on your quest to reach your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, you will first need to start with the Bronze Award. What does that mean and what do you need to do to get there,
The Bronze Award is broken down into four parts, for which you need to complete all sections to pass the award. The first part is ‘Volunteering’ and you need to spend three months as a volunteer and be able to provide evidence to prove this. Whether you choose to help at a youth club for younger children, spend time at an old people’s home providing companionship and making tea, or whether you volunteer at an animal charity and walk dogs, just get your book signed off as proof of your hard work.
The second stage asks you to again spend three months getting ‘physical’. Perhaps you can take up a new sport, join a gym class or perhaps learn to dance. The choice is yours but again the evidence must be there to prove it.
Thirdly you are challenged to develop your ‘Skills’, either by learning a new skill or by improving an existing skill, and finally the fourth challenge is perhaps the most exciting. It involves you planning and training for a short expedition of two days and one night, and completing the mission. Once this has all been completed you are challenged to complete a further three months in one of the first three sections.
Complete all that – and bronze is yours!
