In the long line of films made exclusively because technological advancements allow it to be made, here comes Eagle Eye. This thriller, executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, just doesn’t seem to take movie watchers too seriously. This excess fest from DJ Caruso, who earlier made Talking Lives has somehow managed to bury the plot, the characters, and everything else, under a heavy mound of resources: Slick production, event heaped upon event. Eventually, the movie turns into a mindless jigsaw puzzle of noise, colour and rage.
Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf), a youthful slacker, finds that he has suddenly become owner of a stash of terrorism equipment. He also finds a heavy stash of cash has magically appeared in his bank. Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), who is facing a similar situation, pairs up with him and they both careen from one wild adventure to another. The terrorists apparently mastermind each of these events and the plot hinges for a while on, wondering if this is indeed the case.
Of course, there is a token FBI agent and he pursues them both hotly throughout the action adventure. If you still haven’t seen enough car chases, building collapses and mega explosions, then this is the definite film for you. The action is not just non-stop. It basically never stops. Surely there must be a fan following out there, among eleven-year-olds, for something like this,
The problem with the movie is not the cast, nor is it the story. The problem is, in a nutshell, the maker’s obvious dislike for intrigue, dialogue, or even making a half-hearted engagement with the viewer. For pure adrenaline rushes, see this movie. For any other interest, watch something else, like live tornado adventures.
