Elements of a Successful Story

Many expert and serious writers do not have to think consciously about what they are going to write, but as a beginner, you must think about how the story matches up as a whole. To be able to write a better novel or story, you have to include all the right components. Below is a layout of these components to help you understand them.

At the opening of the novel or story:
Show the readers the main characters, or at least foretell them.
Show characters under various kinds of appropriate stress.
Show what is at stake. Readers and editors want to know this immediately.
Establish the setting and the point of conflict.
Foretell the ending.
Set the tone of the story.

In the body of the novel or story:
Tell the story in scenes, rather than exposition. A scene consists of a purpose, conflict, or obstacle and a declaration that tells something new about the circumstances of the characters.
Enhance your characters by dialogue or actions. Showing what is going on is better than telling it.
Include the elements required for your conclusion.
Give characters enough motivation for their words and actions.
Build the plot as a sequence of increasingly serious problems.
Establish solutions that are appropriate to the problems, as well as the characters.

3) In the conclusion, present a conclusive crucial conflict. This is the climax that revels something of the characters to the readers which has been understood from the start but not obvious.

Note: You may use simile and metaphor, but with a cognisant purpose, not just because a phrase sounds good.
