Faceoff

This is an action adventure type of flick which is a little heavy on the violence. It stars John Travolta in one of his best performances yet. He plays the role of Sean Archer who is a super-dedicated FBI agent who captures a terrorist he has been on the hunt for. This terrorist, a guy by the name of Castor Troy, is a maniac who killed Archer’s son, so the hunt was personal. But what Archer doesn’t realize is that even though he now has Troy in custody, his troubles are only just beginning.

Troy may be in custody, but he’s out of action in other ways as well. He’s currently in a coma and it doesn’t look like he’s ever going to come out of it. So, in order to gather evidence about Troy’s last caper, the planting of a bomb which is still ticking away in a Los Angeles highrise building, Archer “borrows” his face by having it surgically implanted over his own.

Of course the twist here is that Troy does wake up and finding himself faceless, he adopts Archer’s visage and then proceeds to make Archer’s life a living hell.

The movie has a lot of subplots as each man tries to come to grips with his new identity. With Troy back on the loose, it’s a race against time to see which one will survive this nightmare, because clearly the world isn’t big enough for both of them. And that’s where the action/adventure elements of this film come in.

I enjoyed this film, but feel there were just a few too many violent scenes for my personal tastes. Your mileage may differ.
