Forms of Rape

Rape is not defined by one single act. It can come in many different forms, though they all come down to the same thing it is always an act of violence. Rape is intercourse without the consent of one of the parties. This can be done with the use of force or the threat of the use of force.

The problem is that the while the definition of rape remains the same in most people’s minds, it changes from state to state and country to country. For instance, in some countries, it is believed that a woman is obligated to have sex with her spouse. While that may sound reasonable, when a woman says no and is forced to have intercourse problems arise. Forced sex with a partner is called acquaintance rape in some countries, while in others it is not called rape at all.

Acquaintance rape happens when un-consensual intercourse is performed by someone known to the victim. It is also called date rape, but is not limited to rape that occurs on a date. It can in fact be done by someone that the victim knows, but never had a romantic interest in as opposed to stranger rape.

Stranger rape is seen as a more brutal attack. This is probably because it is such a foreign idea for a stranger to assault someone brutally in search of sexual gratification. Stranger rape is different from statutory rape. While statutory rape does not always involve violence, it is still seen as rape. Statutory rape is the act of intercourse with someone under the age of consent, which varies from area to area.
